Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone
Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone
As Puerto Vallarta became more popular as a tourist destination, it needed room to expand. The long stretch of beach north of Old Town provided large parcels of land to construct larger hotels and resorts to meet the demand. The result is what is now known as the Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone where you’ll find the largest concentration of hotels and resorts on Banderas Bay.
Conveniently located about 10 minutes from the airport, the Hotel Zone runs parallel to the beach along the city’s main thruway, Blvd. Francisco Medina Ascencio. Accommodations offered in the area include well-known hotel chains, such as Holiday Inn and Sheraton, as well several local hotels, most of which offer all-inclusive packages. Rental properties are also available, primarily condominiums.
The Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone begins just south of Marina Vallarta and extends between the cruise ship terminal and downtown. Many public bus routes travel through the area, making it easy to explore the city from the Hotel Zone. Also, most major hotels in the area have their own taxi stand right at the hotel entrance.
The Hotel Zone is home to four wide beaches of soft sand: Playa de Oro, Playa Los Tules, Playa Las Glorias and Playa Tranquila. Waves are family-friendly and good for swimming. Some of these beaches are interconnected, so it is possible to walk them continuously. Most hotels in the area offer easy access to the beaches, making the Hotel Zone an ideal spot for family vacations. The beaches are also accessible to the public, though some resorts use rocks to fence off their own areas.
In addition to the many hotels and resorts, the Hotel Zone offers many fine restaurants, shopping, banking and other services. There are several commercial plazas where you can find large department stores, movie theaters, sporting goods and boutiques.
Due to its central location, easy access to shopping and public transit, and affordable housing options, properties in the Hotel Zone have been a popular choice for retirees. However, the area has historically been dominated by hotels, resulting in the availability of only a few beach-front residences, although some can be found on the north side of the boulevard in the neighborhoods of Los Versalles, Fluvial and El Pitillal. Recently, a number of high-rise oceanfront condos have been built. Many of these are up to twenty stories tall and offer exceptional views of downtown Vallarta and the bay.
